Artist Statement

My artist statement is simple: I am a curious person who likes to play. I have always like to play and I think play has help develop my creativity. I love color and feel I am influenced by color. Color creates emotion for me. I like happy accidents and spontaneous explosions. I like drips of color over the side of a canvas because it reminds me that sometimes life is messy. I don't like to plan my art too much. I like to let things happen and try to stop before I make mud. I now jump from one medium to another, trying to "find myself." I like the unusual, something different, not what everyone else is doing. I will try most any medium once, and say, "Been there, done that." Then I move on.

I do the usual acrylics, mixed media and watercolors but mostly I am working in wax because I find it challenging, spontaneous, unpredictable, adventurous, and with a mind of its own. Sorta of like my cat. I am also doing needle felting which I first saw on a trip to Scotland last year. I paint with unspun dyed wool rooving. It is relaxing to me. I love touching the wool. I do alcohol inks because it is PLAY and the most fun. I paint with tattoo ink just because. I have many tattoos, not on my body but on my walls. I am starting to call myself an experimential artist because I like to mix things up and try new things. I alter paper with solvents and make altereed paper paintings. I make rust, mix it with wax and paint with it. What am I doing next? Altered photography, altered books, pastels in cubism style, silk painting, photograpy with glitter, shell art. Also I have some clay in the garage that is calling my name. So many ideas so little time.

Wahooo! I hope you enjoy my art!
